Rapper Queen Latifah broke into acting with her role as Khadijah James, the brassy editor and publisher of an urban monthly magazine, Flavor. The popular FOX sitcom LIVING SINGLE revolved around Khadijah and her group of friends, five other young, single, smart, professional African-Americans including her innocent cousin Synclaire, gold-digging gossipy Regine (Kim Fields), sharp-tongued lawyer Maxine Shaw, friendly handyman Overton, and handsome businessman Kyle. The combination led to a lot of backstabbing, white lies, outrageous situations, and romance, but behind it all, the friends stayed loyal and supportive. The intelligent writing and characterizations won the show two NAACP Image Awards.
