Hands free cell phone operations not only adds to the safety of using a cell phone while driving but in many States it is the law. There are several installed hands free units and then there’s the Bluetooth headset but some don’t want a complicated system installed in their car or find Bluetooth headsets uncomfortable. Motorola offers a simple, portable alternative to hands free operation with the Motorola T305 Portable Bluetooth Car Kit ($64.95)
Out of the box, the Motorola T305’s first impression is “small”. The T305 is about the size of a Tic-Tac box and twice as thick. The T305 weighs a mere 8.8 ounces and comes packaged with a visor clip, car charger and quick start guide.

The T305 looks sleek with its matte black finish and checkered face plate. The device has a dedicated on/off button, a control button and two volume buttons. The control button has a multi-colored LED behind it to confirm/alert users of the T305’s features.
The T305 attaches to your visor by means of a metal clip that slides onto the back of the speaker. This may be the only weak spot in the T305’s construction in that if you don’t firmly seat the clip onto the T305, it is prone to slipping off the clip while on your visor. Seat it firmly and the unit sits more secure.

While the T305 is a compact, nicely designed Bluetooth speaker if it doesn’t perform well it is simply a compact, nicely designed Bluetooth speaker. Pairing the T305 was simple and in a matter of seconds it was connected to my Motorola Q9h Global. The Bluetooth signal was strong and I couldn’t hear any static or interference between the phone and speaker during calls.
Call quality was good as well. The One Watt speaker pulls calls in clearly and with enough volume to hear in heavy traffic. The microphone picks up your voice clearly and filters out a good amount of background noise. Callers could hear me without difficulty using a normal tone and volume.

The Motorola T305 has basic features including voice dialing (phone dependant), rejection of calls, redialing last number, answering second incoming call, and muting a call. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles (audio confirmations, FM transmitter, audio caller id, etc.) of its big brother Motorola T505 it is a solid hands free solution.
Battery life is reported to be up to two hundred hours of standby time and up to twelve hours of talk time. Coupled with the travel charger, battery life shouldn’t be an issue. The range of the T305 is the typical thirty feet so you’ll need to make sure to disconnect the phone from the speaker when you leave your car. I’ve done this with other Bluetooth speakers and did it again with the T305. I left the T305 connected to my Moto Q, parked the car in the driveway and maintained the connection while in my living room when a call came in.
